What is CHAS?

The CHAS scheme is administered by the London Borough of Merton, and is a first stage pre-qualification scheme that allows contractors to demonstrate to potential clients that they meet health and safety standards.

CHAS reduces unnecessary duplication and repeated applications by suppliers and contractors wishing to become approved as local authority suppliers, and helps to improve health and safety in small to medium sized enterprises.

Whilst the CHAS assessment scheme is a local authority and government backed scheme, it can be used by any organisation looking to short list suppliers and contractors and can save time and money for all parties.

How do I become CHAS Accredited?

If you wish to do so, you can make the application yourself. However the process can be lengthy, and if your health and safety management system is not robust it is unlikely that you will meet the standards required.

Unlike other ‘consultants’ who say that they will provide assistance on a completely remote basis, we do not. We will meet with you to carry out an assessment of your current Health and Safety status to ensure that your documentation is relevant for the work you actually undertake.

Naturally we cannot compete on price with the ‘remote providers' and those who will offer you a 'generic pack' (** See below), because our work is bespoke to your particular circumstances. We do however guarantee very high standards at a price lower than you might expect.

Recent changes to CHAS

1st October 2012 - Like the majority of other health and safety pre-qualification schemes, CHAS moved to an annual assessment cycle.

New CHAS Appendix 2 questionnaire issued for 5 or more employees. Click here to download the latest Appendix 2.

New CHAS Appendix 2A questionnaire issued for Less than 5 employees. Click here to download the latest Appendix 2A.

NOTE: If you have previously been CHAS assessed, but not within the last 12 months, your CHAS status is no longer valid and has expired!  Registered CHAS buyers can see your current CHAS database page and an 'expired status' could affect your opportunities to be offered/tender for work.
